Marco Asensio’s agents to hold talks with Arsenal

The agents of Real Madrid star Marco Asensio will travel to London to hold talks with Arsenal and other Premier League clubs, according to The Mirror.

The Spaniard was a regular on the bench during the first half of the season but has started more often for manager Carlo Ancelotti since the turn of the year.

The £118,000-a-week star has two goal contributions in his last two La Liga starts. He also provided a late assist in the 3-2 win over Villarreal in the Copa del Rey last 16.

Hence, he is doing plenty of things right at the moment. With his contract expiring this summer, his agents are now set to jet in to London to speak with Premier League clubs.

While an extension with Madrid has not been ruled out, his representatives want to gauge interest from England. Arsenal are one of the clubs keen on signing him.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is said to be a big admirer of the 27-year-old. Asensio will demand a hike on his current wages if he were to join the club on a free transfer.

Asensio would be a top signing for Arsenal

Asensio has had a difficult campaign with the reigning European champions, but his performances have definitely improved with a regular run of starts for Madrid.

The Spaniard has pre-dominantly played from the right wing this campaign but he is also comfortable operating from the left wing and number 10 positions as well.

Hence, his versatility is a big boost for any club that wants to sign him. This could be one of the reasons behind Arteta’s desire to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Asensio would be a top signing on a free transfer but the big question is whether his agent is talking up the interest in order to secure a new long-term deal with Los Blancos.

With the attacker back in the picture under Ancelotti, the speculation could also be agent-driven. Hopefully, that is not the case as Arsenal have a realistic chance to land him.

A return to Champions League football next season should make the Gunners an attractive destination for many elite stars during this summer’s transfer window.
