Arsenal dreaming of signing Montpellier striker Elye Wahi

Arsenal are ‘dreaming’ of signing Montpellier striker Elye Wahi during the summer transfer window, according to French outlet Telefoot.

The 20-year-old has had a good season for the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring eight goals and providing two assists from 21 league appearances.

His form has caught the eye of several European clubs and Telefoot claim that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund want him.

The trio are keeping tabs on the young Frenchman with a view to a summer transfer.

Arsenal have better prospect in Folarin Balogun

Wahi has fared well for Montpellier with 10 goal involvements. It won’t surprise us if he makes a high-profile move at the end of the season.

He is currently represented by Jorge Mendes. The super-agent already has a good relationship with many top clubs in European football.

Mendes acted as an intermediary in the transfer of Fabio Vieira from Porto last summer. He may have already contacted Arsenal over Wahi.

The €18 million-rated star has the potential to develop into a top striker but in our opinion, the Gunners have a better prospect with them.

Balogun has been splendid for Reims on loan with 16 goals and two assists. He has scored 50 per cent of their goals in the French Ligue 1.

The Gunners graduate has been hugely influential in keeping them clear of the drop zone. In our view, he is ready to make his breakthrough.

Hence, the club don’t require another striker next season. Barring the shock sale of Balogun, we don’t see them moving for Wahi this summer.
