‘Really good’: Mikel Arteta hails Leandro Trossard

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was delighted with the performance of Leandro Trossard during the club’s 1-0 Premier League win over Leicester City on the road.

The Gunners dominated the proceedings against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium today but lacked the cutting edge in the final third with just two shots on target.

One of those led to the winning goal scored by Gabriel Martinelli. The goal was created by Trossard, who cut inside from the left flank before delivering a sublime through ball.

Aside from his assist, he won an impressive seven duels against the Foxes while drawing four fouls. He completed 100 per cent of his dribbles attempted in the game.

Meanwhile, Trossard was very unlucky to be denied one of the goals of the season. He scored with a stunning curler from the edge of the box but VAR adjudged that Ben White fouled the goalkeeper in the lead-up.

Speaking after the game, Arteta was clearly delighted with the Belgian, who started in the false nine role.

He told Arsenal.com: “He did really well.”

“I think he was really good, I think he got involved in many situations that could have ended up in many more big chances.

“He was involved in the incredible goal that he scored that was disallowed, involved in the goal of Gabi, the pass that he played to him.

“He’s so good in small spaces, tight spaces, with his creativity to open people up and I’m really happy with him.”

Trossard has played just over 200 minutes of Premier League football for the Gunners since his January move. He has chipped in with one goal and one assist.

The Belgian is already proving a quality acquisition and Arteta could use him more often up front if he is looking for more flexibility in his attack going forward.

Eddie Nketiah has done an exceptional job in Gabriel Jesus’ injury absence, but having Trossard in the XI allows Arteta to swap him with Martinelli on the left wing.

Trossard is most likely to retain his spot as the false nine when Everton visit the Emirates Stadium in midweek.
