Arsenal handed boost in signing Milinkovic-Savic

Arsenal have been handed a boost in signing Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport (page 14).

The Serbia international has been one of the best box-to-box midfielders in European football over the past few years and he is expected to leave Lazio at the end of the season.

Milinkovic-Savic will enter the final 12 months of his contract in July and Corriere dello Sport claim that his agent Mateja Kezman is primarily focusing on foreign clubs.

Arsenal and Newcastle United are said to be interested in the 27-year-old, who could be available for not more than €40 million during the summer transfer window.

Milinkovic-Savic would be a good acquisition for Arsenal

Milinkovic-Savic has been in fine form for Lazio this campaign, bagging six goals and eight assists from 30 outings. He has primarily operated from the number eight role.

Aside from his goal contributions, the Serbian has also excelled defensively. He has won an impressive 7.8 ground and aerial duels per game alongside 1.8 tackles.

Hence, he is well suited for the demands of the Premier League. At the price quoted, he would be a bargain signing for the Gunners during the next transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal make an approach. Manager Mikel Arteta recently said that he is looking at the right balance rather than focusing on young players alone.

We have already seen Leandro Trossard and Jorginho make a significant impact. In our view, Milinkovic-Savic would be a top-class signing for the club for the next four years.

Milinkovic-Savic would offer strong competition to Granit Xhaka in the creative midfield role as he provides the perfect balance between attack and defence with his strengths.
