Seven Arsenal stars make Premier League Team of the Season shortlist

Seven Arsenal stars have made the 40-man shortlist for the EA Sports Premier League Team of the Season.

The Gunners have had a tremendous top-flight campaign and they are currently top of the league with a four-point advantage over holders Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta’s side still have their title destiny in their own hands and the game at the Etihad Stadium this month could be a defining factor in the pursuit.

Regardless of how the season ends, Arsenal have had a significant improvement in their performances compared to last season where they finished fifth.

They are already on 74 points compared to last season’s final tally of 69. The club are just one win away from securing Champions League football next term.

Hence, there are no surprises that seven Arsenal stars have made the Team of the Season shortlist.

The defence has been crucial towards the club’s success and Aaron Ramsdale has made the cut after keeping an impressive 12 clean sheets – majority on the road.

Alongside him, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Oleksandr Zinchenko have been nominated. Ben White definitely deserved to make the list too, in our view.

From the attack, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are contenders to make the TOTS XI.

Aside from White, we are surprised that Granit Xhaka has not made the shortlist.

The Swiss has been a revelation from the number eight position this campaign. He has 10 goal contributions from 31 outings in the top-flight.

Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard have also been unlucky. Jesus would have definitely made the list if he was not injured after the World Cup.

Trossard has had his best season to date with eight goals and 10 assists in the league but his mid-season move from Brighton may have cost him.
