Arsenal have held talks with the agent of Vitoria Guimaraes starlet Ibrahima Bamba over a summer transfer, according to Fussball Transfers.

The Gunners were linked with the young defender during the January transfer window but nothing materialised beyond the speculation.

It is now reported that the Italian is likely to leave his club this summer and he is attracting interest from four Bundesliga clubs.

The 21-year-old is also on the radar of Premier League sides in Arsenal and Aston Villa, who have already spoken with his representative.

Bamba’s current contract has a release clause worth €30 million but sources close to the player’s camp suggest that Vitoria could sell him for just €10m.

Bamba could be signed to add defensive depth

Bamba started off his career as a defensive midfielder but 27 of his 31 appearances this season have come from central defence.

The young Italian has completed 84 per cent of his passes but he has been most impressive with his defensive attributes.

He has won 2.3 tackles and five duels per Primeira Liga appearance while managing more than four clearances.

Hence, he has shown a steely defensive resolve. He could be considered as a future prospect for the Gunners.

With the relatively low price tag, the Gunners could realistically make an approach to land him this summer.

Bamba may not be a regular starter next term but could be a handy option off the bench with his no-nonsense defending.

Arsenal face a big summer ahead and they are likely to make multiple signings to add competition and depth.

The midfield department could be given top priority while we could see fresh signings for the defence as well.
