Disagreements in agent commission delaying contract extension of Arsenal defender William Saliba
|Arsenal centre-back William Saliba is expected to sign a new deal with the club soon, reports FootballTransfers.
However, ‘minor disagreements in agent commission in the deal’ have delayed things.
The Gunners recently announced that Bukayo Saka has penned a contract extension.
Some of the key players are expected to follow suit, but fans may need to wait for a while for Saliba.
The France international centre-back is out of contract in 2025 and is set to be rewarded with better terms.
The 22-year-old featured in 27 Premier League games this term before a back injury in March ruled him out of the season.
Saliba’s unavailability contributed to Arsenal’s dip in form, which eventually ended their title ambitions.
The north London club have won just four of their last ten league games since he got injured.
They have lost three and drawn the other three, allowing Manchester City to catch up and overtake them.
Saliba has established himself as a key player for manager Mikel Arteta since finally joining the team last summer after three loan spells.
Arsenal need him to be fit ahead of next season and will do well to extend his contract.
The Gunners want to sort out all their outstanding contract negotiations before their pre-season begins on July 19.
They could also look to get their summer transfer targets in as quickly as possible.
Arsenal need to hit the ground running next term to have a chance of challenging for the title again.
Contract negotiations are the last thing they want to be concentrating on when the new season begins.
