Nuno Tavares not in negotiations with Galatasaray at the moment
|Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares is currently not in contact with Galatasaray over a move this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Having loaned Patrick van Aanholt to PSV Eindhoven until 2024, the newly-crowned Super Lig champions are in the market for a new left-back ahead of the upcoming window.
Galatasaray have since been linked with a swoop for Tavares, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now debunked rumours of a potential move to Turkey for the 23-year-old.
Off the back of a tough debut season at the Emirates Stadium, Tavares was a key performer for Olympique Marseille last term where his six goals in 31 matches helped the Ligue 1 side finish third in the standings and on course to return to the Champions League.
Following his much-needed rejuvenation in the top tier of French football alongside Folarin Balogun who netted an impressive 21 times for Stade de Reims, Tavares is looking forward to returning to Arsenal when his loan spell comes to an end later this month.
“Everyone knows that I still have two years left with Arsenal on my contract – we will finish the season,” the Portuguese was quoted saying by Daily Express.
“I am here until the end of the season to reach our objectives with Marseille. I can’t tell you much more.
“I feel very good here, with these players, this manager. We get along really well. At the end of the season, I will return to Arsenal but I can’t say much more.”
While nailing down a starting spot under Mikel Arteta could be a tough ask, Kieran Tierney’s impending departure certainly paves the way for Tavares to become Arsenal’s second-choice option at left-back behind Oleksandr Zinchenko.
However, Tavares could be best served by remaining with Marseille for yet another season to guarantee himself regular playing minutes and continue his development.
