Lazio pushing for Arsenal midfielder Jorginho
|Lazio are keen on signing Arsenal midfielder Jorginho this summer, reports Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian could be on his way out of the club six months after joining them from Chelsea.
The Gunners want to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, which would force Jorginho further down the pecking order.
Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri wants a reunion with the 31-year-old, and the Arsenal man is open to the move too.
Both worked together at Napoli before reuniting at Chelsea, and they could be employees of a third club together again if things work out.
Lazio need to offer a convincing bid to have a chance of getting Arsenal to do business with them.
Reaching personal terms with Jorginho could also prove tricky as he currently earns £110,000 weekly at the north London club.
The Gunners are expected to sell both Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey if they can sign new midfield additions.
They could be open to cashing in on Jorginho, but manager Mikel Arteta could do with his huge experience and quality.
The former Hellas Verona star won the Europa League under Sarri in Chelsea and was also crucial to their Champions League triumph in 2021.
Arsenal are playing in Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2017 and Jorginho’s know-how at such a stage could come in handy.
The 2021 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year winner and Euro 2020 winner will want to remain relevant at international level and needs to play regularly to do so.
Sarri is offering him that chance at Lazio, and it will be interesting to see how things go in the coming weeks.
