Nuno Tavares snubs West Ham, eyes more important club

Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares is waiting for a more important club amid interest from West Ham United, Tuttomercatoweb claim.

The Portuguese fell out-of-favour with the Gunners last season after the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.

He spent the entire campaign on loan at Marseille where he contributed six goals from 39 appearances in all competitions.

It is now reported that Arsenal are prepared to sanction his sale for a fee of €25 million this summer.

Galatasaray and West Ham are on his trail, but Tavares is currently waiting for a ‘more important club’.

Tavares looks set to leave Arsenal this summer

Zinchenko and Tierney are currently ahead of Tavares in the pecking order for a starting role under manager Mikel Arteta.

There are suggestions that Tierney could leave the club in the coming weeks, but we don’t fancy Tavares to stay.

The 23-year-old struggled to adapt to Arsenal’s playing style in his debut season. He was often caught out of position.

If Tierney were to leave the club, there is a good possibility that Takehiro Tomiyasu could provide back-up.

Arsenal also have Lino Sousa from their academy, who has been touted to make his breakthrough soon.

Meanwhile, we are not surprised that Tavares is not keen on staying in London with the Hammers.

David Moyes’ side won the UEFA Conference League, but finished a lowly 14th in the top-flight.

The Portuguese has his sights on a bigger challenge, and Atalanta could be a possible destination.

The Bergamo outfit tried to sign him on loan last summer before he chose to join Marseille.

€25m would represent a good piece of business for Arsenal, having bought Tavares for just €8m in 2021.
