Ajax defender Jurrien Timber to have medical on Friday ahead of Arsenal move
|Ajax defender Jurrien Timber will travel to London today for his medical with Arsenal on Friday, reports Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The North London club reached an agreement with their Eredivisie counterpart yesterday and will part with an initial €40 million for his services.
An additional €5m will be paid in add-ons if certain clauses in the deal are met.
Timber will pen a five-year deal with Arsenal, which could be announced this weekend alongside Declan Rice.
An agreement for the West Ham United midfielder to join Arsenal has also been sealed, with his medical scheduled for Friday too.
The Gunners have already snapped up Germany international attacker Kai Havertz from Chelsea, and manager Mikel Arteta is set to bolster his defence and midfield with the additions of Timber and Rice.
Arsenal are returning to the Champions League next term and will also look to challenge for the Premier League title again after coming very close last season.
They will need more quality depth across all departments, and the three aforementioned players will add a much-needed boost to the squad.
A lack of depth at the back proved costly for Arsenal last term, with William Saliba’s injury towards the end of the season derailing their campaign.
Timber can play at both right-back and centre-back, and his versatility will come in handy.
The Netherlands international has huge experience and quality, and Arsenal are signing a top player in the 22-year-old.
