Reiss Nelson and William Saliba sign new Arsenal contracts

Arsenal have been handed a double boost ahead of next season with Reiss Nelson and William Saliba signing new deals.

While Saliba’s new contract is yet to be officially announced, the Frenchman has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months, per Fabrizio Romano.

Saliba was a first-team regular last season and his absence coincided with Arsenal’s drop in form towards the end of the season as they relinquished leadership of the Premier League to Manchester City.

Following a tough start to life at the Emirates which saw him go on two loan spells, Saliba has established himself as a key figure for Arsenal and his contract extension certainly bodes well for the Gunners’ title chances next season.

Meanwhile, Reiss Nelson has been rewarded for his impact substitute appearances last time out where he racked up three league goals and two assists in just 220 minutes of action – less than two-and-a-half full matches.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was pleased to see Nelson extend his stay in North London having been at the club since the age of five.

“Reiss is a player I have admired since the first day I was here,” the 41-year-old told Arsenal’s official website.

“He has tremendous ability and is such an exciting offensive talent. Reiss knows how important he is to our squad with the quality he has.

“It’s great that Reiss has committed his future to us – he knows this club so well, he grew up here and we look forward to enjoying many more good moments with him.”

Having reached full agreements for the transfer of Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber while also tying down Saliba and Nelson to new deals, the last couple of days have been productive for Arsenal and they can now start to focus on outgoings, starting with Granit Xhaka’s impending move to Bayer Leverkusen.
