Arsenal in race with Chelsea & Tottenham to sign Gabri Veiga

Arsenal are currently vying with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga this summer, according to Le 10 Sport.

The Gunners have been very active in the first month of the transfer window. They have already signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea for £65 million.

Meanwhile, West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice and Ajax defender Jurrien Timber are due to join before the US pre-season tour.

Le 10 Sport now claim that Veiga is ‘expected’ to move to England. Arsenal are in a three-way race with Chelsea and Spurs to sign him.

The French outlet don’t specify anything more, but it has previously been claimed that Veiga would like to work under manager Mikel Arteta.

Veiga contributed 11 goals and four assists from 36 La Liga games last season. He currently has a release clause worth £34m in his Celta contract.

Arsenal unlikely to pursue another playmaker

Arsenal recently made a huge outlay to land Havertz from the Blues.

The Germany international largely played as a striker last season, but Arteta has hinted that the 24-year-old could operate from midfield.

Rice will be another huge addition. He is a defensive midfielder, but the manager could consider him for the number eight position too.

The England star is one of the best distributors from the centre of the park, and he could be utilised in a more advanced role next term.

Taking this into regard, it seems unlikely that Arsenal will pursue the services of Veiga this summer.

Veiga can operate in the central and attacking midfield roles, but the Gunners have the positions well covered at the moment.

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is on the radar for the number six spot, but a deal could be dependent on Thomas Partey leaving.
