Besiktas submit offer to sign Rob Holding
|Turkish club Besiktas have submitted an opening offer to sign Arsenal defender Rob Holding, according to reputed journalist David Ornstein.
The 27-year-old has already spent seven seasons with the Gunners where he has made 162 appearances across all competitions.
Holding has been a decent deputy in recent years, but the club are likely to sell him this summer after the signing of Jurrien Timber.
Besiktas have now submitted an offer of around €2.5 million for the former Bolton graduate.
Ornstein reports that the proposal is ‘far below’ what Arsenal might consider to sell, and will be rejected.
Holding’s current deal expires in June 2024, but the club have the option to extend for 12 months.
Arsenal could sell Holding in the coming weeks
Holding has fared well in his cameo appearances when Arsenal try to see out games.
His ability to win aerial duels and make clearances are his main strengths.
However, he has struggled to find the same consistency from the starting line-up.
His limited mobility has made him vulnerable to opposition counter-attacks.
Hence, we won’t be surprised if he heads for the exit door after Timber’s arrival.
€2.5m is an abysmal offer in our opinion. Holding is currently valued at €8m by Transfermarkt.
The Gunners should hold out for at least that figure to part ways with Holding.
Holding is still in the prime of his career, and has another five years left at the top level at least.
He is due to travel for the US pre-season tour, but could leave the squad if a suitable offer arrives.
