Arsenal midfielder Reiss Nelson out for few weeks with foot injury
|Arsenal will be without Reiss Nelson for a few weeks due to a foot injury, reports The Athletic.
The English midfielder sustained the laceration during the pre-season camp in Germany.
Nelson featured in the 1-1 draw against Nurnberg but Arsenal decided it was safer to let him recover in the UK.
The Gunners left London on Sunday for their pre-season tour of the United States and will return later this month.
Nelson signed a new four-year deal this month and was hoping to use the pre-season to impress manager Mikel Arteta.
The injury comes as a huge blow for the 23-year-old and Arsenal, but it is not a serious one and he is expected to be fit before the 2023-24 season starts.
They play MLS All-Stars (July 20), Manchester United (July 22), Barcelona (July 26) and AS Monaco (August 2).
Their season starts with the Community Shield clash against Manchester City on August 6 before facing Nottingham Forest on August 12.
Arsenal started their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Watford on July 8 and Arteta will hope to avoid any other injuries between now and August.
Nelson played 18 games across all completions last season after returning from a loan spell at Feyenoord, starting five times, scoring thrice and assisting thrice.
He will hope to start more games next term but will have to challenge new addition Kai Havertz and the now-fit Emile Smith Rowe for a place in the pecking order.
