Arsenal have approached to sign Galatasaray defender Sacha Boey, but a transfer is unlikely to happen this summer, according to Turkish outlet Aksam.
The 22-year-old had an impressive 2022/23 season with Galatasaray. He contributed one goal and four assists from 33 outings from the right-back spot.
Aside from his goal involvements, he won a stunning 2.8 tackles and 6.9 duels per game alongside 1.1 take-ons, 1.8 interceptions and two clearances.
Boey recently admitted that Arsenal’s interest is ‘very flattering‘, but he could be left disappointed with Galatasaray reluctant to sell him this summer.
The Istanbul outfit recently won the Super Lig title after four years, and the hierarchy want to protect the core of the squad for their Champions League return.
Arsenal are one of the clubs lining up for the former Rennes graduate, but Galatasaray have already made the decision to keep the Frenchman in their squad.
Arsenal have sufficient depth at right-back
The Gunners were heavily linked with Boey earlier this year, but it has not materialised into a formal bid.
Galatasaray’s stance could be a reason, but the club also have sufficient depth at right-back next season.
Ben White was the undisputed starter for most of the previous Premier League campaign while Takehiro Tomiyasu provided the back up when required.
With the signing of Jurrien Timber, there is now more competition for places in the department.
The Dutchman is predominantly a central defender, but has been signed by manager Mikel Arteta to play as an inverted right-back with his strong passing skills.
Hence, Arsenal have no need to pursue a fourth right-back option. In our view, Boey could still move to the Premier League with Spurs and Newcastle keen.
Boey recently acknowledged that he is aiming to move to the English top-flight, but the full-back may have to wait for another season to secure his transfer.
