Leandro Trossard stars for Arsenal in 5-3 friendly win over Barcelona

Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard delivered a superb performance during the club’s impressive 5-3 friendly win over Barcelona in the United States.

The Belgium international joined the Gunners from Brighton & Hove Albion in January this year. He made an instant impact with one goal and 10 assists.

The 28-year-old has continued his good form in pre-season. Trossard scored with a superb curler from outside the box against the MLS All Stars.

Against Barcelona, he was lively throughout, scoring a brace.

He put the Gunners ahead (3-2) with a left-footed shot towards the far post before an instinctive right-footed finish to increase the lead from a Kierney Tierney cross.

Aside from his goal contributions, the Belgian was also brilliant with his distribution, completing 21 out of his 23 passes – an accuracy of 91 per cent.

Trossard made three interceptions while winning two duels and one tackle. The former Genk man also completed 100 per cent of his long balls.

Trossard could secure starting berth

Trossard excelled from the false nine role for the Gunners when Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah were injured during the back end of last season.

He also started ahead of Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing on occasions. After his latest performance, he has made a strong statement to the manager.

Mikel Arteta has been open to rewarding his players when they stand out with their displays. In our view, Trossard should make the XI versus Monaco.

If he can produce another top showing, there is no reason why Trossard won’t start in the Community Shield game against Manchester City on August 6.
