Arsenal want Brentford goalkeeper David Raya
|Arsenal are exploring a deal to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, reports The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
Bayern Munich are also keen on the 27-year-old, but he favours a move to join the Gunners, who are long-term admirers.
Arsenal want stiff competition for Aaron Ramsdale, and they reckon Raya is perfect for the job.
The Spaniard is one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers in the Premier League, and it appears that has attracted Gunners manager Mikel Arteta.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were linked with the Brentford star in January, and the club could be forced to sell him as he has just 12 months left on his deal.
Apart from his excellent ability on the ball and distribution, Raya is also a top shot stopper, and his pinpoint passes and touches would fit perfectly into the style of play at Arsenal.
The Bees have yet to receive an offer from Arsenal or any other suitor, but are aware of their interest.
A move to the North London club would see Raya reunite with former Brentford goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana.
Ramsdale has been impressive since joining Arsenal in 2021 but he could do with a quality competition in Raya.
The Spain international joined Brentford from Blackburn Rovers in 2019, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
He has since kept 20 clean sheets in 62 top-flight appearances and has been one of their best players over the last four seasons.
Arsenal were linked with Raya in 2020 and could finally get their man if they convince the Bees with their bid.
