Sheffield United want Arsenal centre-back Auston Trusty on loan
|Arsenal are in talks with Sheffield United over a summer deal for Auston Trusty, reports the Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath.
The United States international centre-back joined the Gunners from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids in January 2022, remaining on loan with the club until July.
Trusty moved to England and immediately joined Birmingham City on loan for the whole of the 2022-23 campaign.
He returned to Arsenal for pre-season preparations, making his unofficial debut during their recent tour of the United States.
Trusty is a quality left-side centre-back but is still behind a couple of players in the pecking order at Arsenal.
Another season-long loan could be on the cards if talks keep progressing between both clubs.
The Blades are back in the Premier League and are looking to bolster their defence with the addition of the American.
He caught their eyes during his time in the Championship last term after some impressive performances, which saw him emerge as Birmingham City Player of the Season.
Trusty helped the USMNT win the CONCACAF Nations League in June and is ready to prove himself in the English top-flight.
His chances of doing so if he remains at Arsenal this season are as slim as they come, but it appears that the Gunners are not keen on losing the 24-year-old permanently.
Should Trusty end up proving his quality elsewhere in the Premier League next term, he could return and challenge for a place in the starting XI at Arsenal or get sold for a decent fee.
