Gary Lineker reacts as Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale tells it all in The Players Tribune interview
|Gary Lineker has praised Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for telling it all in a column with The Players Tribune yesterday.
The England international goalkeeper discussed a lot of issues in the magazine, ranging from how he joined the Gunners, the negative reactions he got on social media before the move and how he asked Bukayo Saka if Arsenal were truly interested in him.
Some of the things that stood out were Ramsdale talking about his gay brother and how he reacted to his wife losing a pregnancy.
A lot of people have been impressed with the honesty and openness of the Arsenal star, and Lineker has also reacted.
“This is truly exceptional and very moving, by Aaron Ramsdale,” the former England international posted on Twitter/X.
Ramsdale has promised to speak up against homophobia in the dressing room and everywhere in defence of his brother and other members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Football players often shy away from sensitive topics and discussions, but the Arsenal goalie laid it all bare in the interview.
More players would be encouraged to follow suit, and the Premier League could soon have its first openly-gay player if more support are shown by others in the top-flight.
Players and pundits have often been told to stick to football, but they have every right to express their opinions regarding topics and discussions outside of the game.
Ramsdale has proven to be a solid addition to the team since arriving at Arsenal, immediately establishing himself as the number 1.
He is looking to do so at national level too but could soon face stiff competition for his starting berth at the North London club.
Arsenal want Brentford goalie David Raya and have tabled a bid for the Spain international as manager Mikel Arteta looks to keep everyone in his squad on their toes.
