Aaron Ramsdale sends message to Matt Turner as United States international goalkeeper leaves Arsenal to join Nottingham Forest
|Matt Turner has left Arsenal for Nottingham Forest after a year, and Aaron Ramsdale has taken to Instagram to react to the American’s goodbye post.
The United States international goalkeeper has signed a four-year contract with the City Ground club and will be looking forward to making his Premier League debut, which could come against the Gunners on Saturday.
Turner made seven appearances for Arsenal last term, but none came in the league as Ramsdale’s form kept him out and largely made him the back-up.
The England international has reacted thus after Turner announced his exit from the North London club.
Arsenal are preparing to bring in another goalie to challenge Ramsdale and are closing in on a deal for Brentford goalie David Raya.
The Spain international will give Ramsdale a run for his money, but the Gunners star is looking forward to the competition and has made his feelings very clear ahead of the potential arrival of his Brentford counterpart.
Turner could not give the Englishman the fierce competition manager Mikel Arteta would have desired, but Raya is bringing exactly what the boss wants to the table.
He is arguably better than Ramsdale with the ball at his feet and will be very determined to immediately establish himself as the first choice.
The England international was a little erratic with his goal kicks during the friendlies in the pre-season tour of the United States, and Arteta could be seen turning away in frustration when the ball had been sliced out of play when Ramsdale attempted to play long to his right.
Raya has a futsal background and is capable of finding his teammates over a long distance.
Ramsdale was also at fault for the first goal as Arsenal suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester United in New Jersey, allowing Bruno Fernandes’ shot go through him.
While he was only responsible for two errors leading to goals last term, the Gunners really need fierce competition in such a position if they want to win the Premier League title and major silverware, and Raya is the perfect man for the job.
