Brighton confident of keeping Kaoru Mitoma amid Arsenal transfer interest
|Brighton & Hove Albion are confident of keeping Kaoru Mitoma beyond the summer amid interest from Arsenal and Bayern Munich, talkSPORT claim.
The Japan international was in superb form for the Seagulls in the last campaign. He registered 10 goals and eight assists from 41 appearances in all competitions.
Most of his goal contributions came after the World Cup, and he was undoubtedly one of the in-form Premier League attackers in the second half of the season.
Arsenal are one of the clubs linked with him, but talkSPORT report that the South Coast outfit are confident Mitoma won’t become the latest big-name exit.
The 26-year-old is believed to be close to putting pen-to-paper on a long-term deal.
Mitoma speculation could be agent-driven
Mitoma has been brilliant for Brighton since the beginning of the year, and we are not surprised that he is being linked with several top European clubs this summer.
However, the speculation with Arsenal could be agent-driven. The attacker’s representatives could be using the club’s name to secure an improved contract for him.
The Gunners already have sufficient options on the left wing. Gabriel Martinelli is an undisputed starter when on form. Leandro Trossard is the immediate back-up choice.
The likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson can also operate from the role. Hence, Arsenal have no reason to pursue another specialist left winger this summer.
If they plan to strengthen the attack, manager Mikel Arteta would ideally prefer a back-up on the right wing for Bukayo Saka. Mohammed Kudus would be our choice.
