John Cross claims Arsenal ace Gabriel could be set for shock Saudi move before window closes

Arsenal centre-back Gabriel is a shock transfer target for an unnamed Saudi club.

According to the Mirror’s John Cross, the 25-year-old Arsenal defender could move to the Saudi Pro League before the end of the transfer window, after his surprise omission against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Gabriel joined the Gunners from Lille in the summer of 2020 for around £27 million (Sky Sports), and he has since gone on to be a mainstay at the Emirates.

The Brazilian started 73 consecutive games for Mikel Arteta before missing out against Forest last weekend. Now it seems like that decision from the Arsenal boss could see the South American centre-back move on this summer…

John Cross reckons that the 25-year-old defender is being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

If he is sold, Arsenal would obviously have to get a top-class replacement in through the door. It just feels like it’s way too late in the window to be doing that, especially considering how much money the Gunners would have to pay for a Gabriel replacement.

I fully expect Gabriel to come back into the Arsenal side for next week’s game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. He formed a rock solid partnership with William Saliba last season -arguably the best in the Premier League.

And as far as I’m concerned, Gabriel will be playing in the Premier League rather than Saudi Arabia for some time still to come. The 25-year-old is an elite centre-back, and I have no doubts in my mind that Arteta will want to keep him at the Emirates.
