Arsenal contact Jorge Mendes over Ansu Fati, plan to negotiate with Barcelona

Arsenal have contacted super-agent Jorge Mendes over the possibility of signing Barcelona winger Ansu Fati, according to Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez.

The Gunners have made four signings in Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and David Raya this summer, but there could be more arrivals before the transfer deadline.

It appears Fati could be a surprise target for the club. As per Sanchez, the Gunners have approached Mendes to inform that they are willing offer Fati a long-term contract.

Mikel Arteta’s side are also prepared to open negotiations with Barcelona. Arsenal are likely to face competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of the 20-year-old.

Arsenal could propose loan deal with a buy clause

Fati’s future has been regularly speculated this summer, and he has now made the decision to leave Barcelona after only coming on as a 79th minute substitute against Getafe.

The Gunners are now interested in prising him away from the Catalans, but we believe the hierarchy should propose an initial loan deal with a possible buy option for next summer.

The La Masia graduate has shown glimpses of his immense potential over the past few years, but the club first need to gauge whether he can adapt to the demands of English football.

The €35 million-rated star has made just eight out of 110 appearances for the Blaugrana from the right wing. If manager Mikel Arteta sees him as a competitor to Bukayo Saka, he has a lot to prove.

Tottenham are also interested in the Spanish starlet, but Arsenal should have the upper hand over their north London rivals with the assurance of Champions League football this term.
