Ally McCoist claims Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is already looking like the signing of the season
|TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist believes Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is proving to be the best signing of the season so far after hitting the ground running at the North London club.
The England international joined the Gunners from West Ham United earlier this summer in a deal worth £105 million, and he has been brilliant so far.
Arsenal, Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion are the only sides to have maintained a 100% start to the 2023-24 Premier League season after two games, with Rice playing key roles in helping his side to victories against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.
His performances have left McCoist impressed, and the former Rangers manager reckons he is the signing of the summer transfer window so far.
“He has been absolutely terrific since he went to Arsenal,” McCoist said.
“He is obviously bundles and bundles of talent, even when your backs are against the wall, you want him in your team.”
The 24-year-old was the official man of the match in the last game as the Gunners ran out 1-0 winners over Palace at Selhurst Park.
Rice completed 54 passes and three long balls, had 90% pass accuracy, took 68 touches, made four ball recoveries, won two ground duels, made one key pass and created one big chance, putting in an impressive and tireless shift in the middle of the park.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was very desperate to sign the Englishman, and his side ensured they pipped Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Chelsea to his signature.
Rice also only wanted to join the Gunners and is dreaming of winning major trophies with his new team.
His Arsenal career could not have started any better, and the club will fancy their chances of winning the Premier League title this term due to his signing.
The Gunners face Fulham at Emirates Stadium on Saturday and will be eyeing another victory as they look to go one better after finishing second last term.
