Opinion: ‘Sensational’ £34m star is ideal Gabriel replacement, has specific quality Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants

Piero Hincapie would be a very good option indeed for Arsenal this summer, if Gabriel Magalhaes leaves the Emirates.

The Mirror’s John Cross reported last week that Gabriel, 25, is being targeted by Saudi clubs in a big money deal.

Since then, Mikel Arteta has left the Brazilian out of his starting XI for the opening two Premier League games of the season – that came after he started 73 consecutive league games for the Gunners.

The Arsenal fans will obviously want big Gabby to stay in north London – he has been superb for the Gunners over the past couple of years and has formed a superb partnership with William Saliba.

Should he leave though, getting in a top-class replacement will be a priority for Arteta, and I think the perfect option is out there just waiting to be signed…

Piero Hincapie would be the perfect summer signing for the Gunners, if Gabriel does leave the Emirates before the transfer window slams shut.

The wonderkid has been dubbed as South America’s best young defender (Goal), and it’s easy to see why – what a player he is.

Hincapie shone for Ecuador at the World Cup out in Qatar and has since been in superb form for Bayer Leverkusen. He has been described as ‘sensational’ by The Express.

In 30 Bundesliga outings last season, Hincapie averaged 1.7 tackles, one interception, 2.5 clearances and two successful aerial duels per game. During those appearances, the Ecuadorian made 55.7 passes on average per match and recorded a completion rate of 83.2%.

He’s available for around £34 million this summer (Teamtalk). Selling Gabriel for north of £50 million and signing Piero Hincape for the fee mentioned would be superb business for Arsenal as far as I’m concerned.
