Four Arsenal players make England squad, Nketiah earns maiden call-up
|England head coach Gareth Southgate has called up four Arsenal players for the upcoming international fixtures.
The Three Lions are scheduled to face Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifier next month before a friendly against Scotland.
Ahead of those games, Southgate has picked his 26-man squad which includes four Arsenal stars.
Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have been regulars in the set-up and the trio have been picked again.
Alongside them, there is a surprise call-up for Eddie Nketiah on the back of his impressive start to the new campaign.
Nketiah scored the opening goal of the season for the Gunners against Nottingham Forest this month.
He went on to earn the match-winning penalty at Crystal Palace before scoring another goal in the 2-2 draw vs Fulham.
With three goal contributions from as many games, the Hale End graduate has finally earned his maiden England call-up.
The quartet deserve to make the Three Lions squad, but we remain surprised by Southgate’s decision to exclude Ben White from the national set-up since the World Cup.
White left the squad at the global tournament after an alleged rift with the coaching staff. We believe this could be the reason behind his absence from recent England squads.
White has started at centre-back in the first three games of the campaign, but has been ignored for Harry Maguire, who has been sitting on the bench at Manchester United.
