Declan Rice delivers sublime Arsenal display in Man Utd win
|Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice delivered a sublime performance during the 3-1 Premier League win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The Gunners dominated the early part of the game at the Emirates Stadium but it was United, who opened the scoring in the 27th minute.
Just like in January, Marcus Rashford scored for the Red Devils, but the lead lasted for under a minute before Martin Odegaard equalised.
In the second half, the Gunners started as the better outfit, and Bukayo Saka missed a golden chance to put the club ahead in the 82nd minute.
Alejandro Garnacho seemed to have won the game for United before stoppage time, but his goal was chalked off for a marginal offside.
In the 96th minute, Rice clinched the game for the Gunners. He beat Andre Onana with a low shot at the near post after a slight deflection.
Gabriel Jesus put the gloss on the performance with the club’s third goal before the full-time whistle.
Arsenal had many stand-out performers. Odegaard stood out with a captain’s display while Gabriel Martinelli was impressive on the left wing.
However, Rice was our man of the match after a brilliant all-round showing for the club.
Aside from his match-defining goal, Rice had 84 touches, completing 64 out of his 73 passes.
He won 100 per cent of his aerial duels (3/3) alongside two interceptions and one tackle.
Arsenal’s summer signing has looked at home since his debut. He played in a more deeper role today, but managed to make the difference in the end.
The Gunners have now secured 10 points from the first four games of the season. They are fifth on the table, two points behind leaders Manchester City.
The victory should provide a huge morale boost for the club. They will return to action against Everton at Goodison Park after the international break.
