Mexico international attacker Marcelo Flores leaves Arsenal for Tigres

Mexico international attacking midfielder Marcelo Flores is set to leave Arsenal and join Tigres in a permanent deal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 19-year-old will travel for his medical tests and sign a four-year contract with the Liga MX club.

Flores joined Arsenal in 2019 as a youth player before signing his first professional contract in October 2020.

The attacker is yet to play for the Gunners Arsenal first team but made the matchday squad against Crystal Palace in April 2022 before joining Spanish second-division side Real Oviedo on a season-long loan in July 2022.

While Flores could not force his way into the senior team at Arsenal, he is highly rated internationally, earning his first senior call-up in November 2021 and finally making his debut for El Tri the following month.

The winger also featured in the 2022-23 CONCACAF Nations League game against Suriname in June, which officially cap-tied him to Mexico as he was also eligible to play for Canada and England.

Flores is one of the best talents to have emerged from the Hale End academy in recent years, but forcing his way into the star-studded Arsenal attack has been herculean, and it appears both parties have now opted to go their separate ways.

The North London club reportedly triggered a two-year extension in his contract in March as it was due to expire in the summer.

However, it seems the Ontario-born is unwilling to continue his career at the club having grown frustrated with his lack of opportunities at senior level, and it will be intriguing to see how things turn out for him in the future.
