Kai Havertz shines for Germany with key assist vs France

Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz helped Germany beat France in an international friendly on Tuesday by providing a key assist off the bench.

The 24-year-old has had a difficult start to his Gunners career, and he has yet to score or assist during his first five appearances for the club.

In this period, he has been guilty of missing some clear-cut scoring chances, and the pressure is already on him to live up to the expectations.

Havertz will return to Premier League action with Arsenal on Sunday. He should go into the game with some confidence after his assist for Germany.

The former Chelsea star failed to make an impact in the 4-1 friendly loss versus Japan, but he redeemed himself against France, coming off the bench.

Havertz was brought on after the hour mark and three minutes from time, he provided a delightful through ball for Leroy Sane to make it 2-0.

France immediately replied with an Antoine Griezmann penalty, but the Germans managed to hold on for their first victory since March against Peru.

Aside from his assist, Havertz completed eight out of his 10 passes. He won two duels and one tackle.

The German has been impressive with his hold-up, link-up play and movement in the final third, but he has lacked the cutting edge inside the box.

He has also been prone to losing possession with occasional loose passes. Hopefully, we will see a better version of him when the season resumes.

Judging by Mikel Arteta’s public backing of Havertz, we won’t be surprised if he gets the nod in the starting line-up for the visit of Everton.
