Arsenal close to agreeing Martin Odegaard extension and new contract for Ben White
|Arsenal are looking to tie up Martin Odegaard on a new contract, as per ESPN.
The 24-year-old has a contract at the north London club until 2025, but talks are already underway over fresh terms.
The Daily Mail reported on Thursday (14 September) that the Gunners skipper is in “advanced talks” over signing a new deal, and it looks like the north London giants are increasingly confident that it will be sorted soon.
Odegaard first joined Arsenal in 2021, and he has been a symbol of consistency. He is loved by the fans and now looks all set for a significant increase on his £120,000-a-week wage.
He initially joined from Real Madrid on loan, and later the move was made permanent, with the Gunners paying £30 million for his signature.
Odegaard was made the captain of the side by Mikel Arteta last summer. He has scored 26 goals in 110 appearances for the Gunners already. With his best years ahead of him, it makes sense for the Gunners to tie him down on a long-term deal.
Another key player who could also sign a new contract at the club is Ben White. The versatile defender is set to open formal talks over an extension after impressing heavily last season.
White – who joined from Brighton for £50 million in 2021 – has become an important player in Arteta’s side. He is primarily a centre-back but played mostly as a right-back last season.
He still has three years to run on his present deal, but it appears that the Gunners are looking to secure his long-term future at the club as well.
