Jurrien Timber spotted at Arsenal under-19 UCL game with PSV as Ethan Nwaneri scores
|Arsenal under-19s faced their PSV Eindhoven counterparts in the UEFA Youth League this afternoon, and Jurrien Timber was spotted at Meadow Park.
The Dutch international defender is currently out of action after undergoing surgery on the ACL injury he picked up on the first day of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.
While he could be out of action for months, the fact that he has been walking unaided having been on crutches a couple of weeks ago is a huge fitness boost.
Timber was with the first-team squad on Monday for their official group photograph, and seeing him today walking about means he is indeed feeling good.
It will be intriguing to see whether he returns early next year as Arsenal could do with such a player at the back.
Manager Mikel Arteta could be forced to include some of the youth team players in his Champions League matchday squads due to injuries, and a youngster looking to break into the senior squad in Ethan Nwaneri
The midfielder opened the scoring against PSV under-19s in the 2-1 defeat, grabbing Arsenal’s first Youth League goal since 2016.
The 16-year-old became Arsenal’s and the Premier League’s youngest-ever player when he featured against Brentford in a Premier League match last September aged 15 and has been brilliant this term.
Nwaneri grabbed a hat-trick last month when the under-21s secured a 4-1 win over Leicester City, with Arteta watching, and he will be hoping to feature for the senior team again this term.
The Arsenal team face PSV later tonight on their return to the Champions League for the first time since 2017, and Timber could also decide to drop in to check out his teammates at Emirates Stadium.
