Callum Hudson-Odoi and Charlie Patino react as Charles Sagoe Junior makes Arsenal debut
|Arsenal academy graduate Charles Sagoe Junior made his first-team debut for the Gunners in their Carabao Cup third-round clash against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday night.
The 19-year-old attacker started on the right wing in the 1-0 victory against the Bees before he was withdrawn in the 68th minute for Gabriel Jesus.
Sagoe Jr. took to his Instagram account to express his delight with the achievement, and his teammates and mates flooded the comment section to react and send their best wishes.
Fellow Arsenal player Charlie Patino, who is currently on loan in the Championship with Swansea City and Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi were among those who reacted to the teenager’s debut, with the former Chelsea star impressed and making his feelings clear with a fire emoji as he was blown away to see his friend make his senior team bow.
Sagoe Jr. has been one of the most consistent players in the Arsenal under-23s for a few months and has been training with the first-team for a while.
The Kingston-Upon-Thames-born forward joined the North London club from Fulham in 2015 and was a regular at under-21 level last season, scoring six times in 26 league outings.
He also appeared in all four Papa John’s Trophy matches and was named on the bench for the Europa League match away to Sporting CP in March 2023.
Sagoe Jr. signed his professional contract in July 2022 and will now hope to break into the plans of manager Mikel Arteta permanently.
With Bukayo Saka still a doubt for the Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday after limping off against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, the teenager could get another chance to impress off the bench at Vitality Stadium.
