‘Respect’ – Pundit blown away by Arsenal player after what he did v Brentford

Kevin Campbell has showered praise on Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after he put in a strong performance against Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old produced a performance of the highest quality as the Gunners earned a 1-0 victory to set up a date with West Ham in the next round of the EFL Cup.

Ramsdale – who lost his place in the first team to David Raya – reminded Mikel Arteta of his class as he seized his opportunity with both of those gloved hands.

Campbell, former Arsenal striker turned popular football pundit, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his reaction. He wrote:

“Respect to Aaron Ramsdale tonight what a performance and a great save too! What a Great Mentality.”

Unnecessary fuss

Ramsdale, quite surprisingly, has been in the news lately, without having to do much on the pitch. He was seen clapping for Raya from the bench which sparked strong criticism from pundits like Jamie Carragher who questioned his mentality.

Nick, Ramsdale’s father, reacted quickly as he felt the slander was taken too far by the Sky Sports pundit. He branded him a “disgrace”, and received support from lots of fans who felt Carragher was out of line for calling Ramsdale out.

With two fantastic goalkeepers at the helm, Arteta is bound to face the dilemma over team selection. Raya seems to be the first-choice keeper at the moment, but Arteta cannot keep Ramsdale out for long if he continues to perform like this.

It seems like dropping Ramsdale to the bench has fired him up, and if that was Arteta’s plan from the beginning then it has worked perfectly.
