Another Arsenal injury doubt emerges, five players could miss out vs Bournemouth – report
|
Arsenal will travel to Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday and could be without several key players.
According to the Mirror, centre-back William Saliba is a major doubt after missing the midweek League Cup tie at Brentford.
The 22-year-old French defender is yet to return to training after injury. He has played every minute for the Gunners in the Premier League but wasn’t involved at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Takehiro Tomiyasu was excellent against the Bees and likely to start against Bournemouth if Saliba fails to recover in time.
Mikel Arteta is also sweating over the fitness of Bukayo Saka. The England winger picked up a knock in the final few minutes against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
He looked in severe pain and is now a major doubt for this game. Arteta confirmed that his injury is not serious, but the Spaniard is unlikely to take any risks.
Declan Rice could also be absent for the game. The big-money summer signing from West Ham United complained of discomfort and was taken off at the break.
It was initially feared he had picked up a muscle injury, but it appears he injured his back. The scan report suggested that it isn’t a major injury, but he could miss this weekend’s clash.
Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli both missed the game against Spurs, and they will be assessed before the game.
Trossard may have a chance to feature but Martinelli probably will miss out.
Arsenal desperately need a victory this weekend as they strive to keep in touch with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
The reigning champions have been in imperious form in the league and the Gunners can ill afford to drop any silly points at Bournemouth.
The Cherries are yet to win this season and will be eager to get off the mark against Arteta’s side.
