Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka withdrawn against Bournemouth in injury scare
|Arsenal secured a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday at Vitality Stadium to return to winning ways after their 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last time out in the league.
The win saw them move within a point of Premier League leaders Manchester City after the reigning champions lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but the Gunners suffered an injury scare as Bukayo Saka was withdrawn during the closing stages of the game.
The Arsenal forward limped off against Spurs last weekend and was unavailable for selection for the Carabao Cup game against Brentford during the week.
Saka missed some training sessions during the week but was eventually passed fit to face Bournemouth.
However, it appears the decision to play him today has backfired as he was seen limping against the Cherries before he was taken off.
“Saka was passed fit for today but you have to question whether that was actually the case,” Sky Sports reporter Dan Sansom said during the live commentary of the game.
“Even so, he definitely should have been taken off sooner. He has been limping around for ages!”
Saka opened the scoring against Bournemouth 17 minutes into the game, and while manager Mikel Arteta was not keen to have him miss out on the game, the Spaniard could end up wishing he had rested the Englishman if the knock ends up keeping him out of contention for the Man City game.
Pep Guardiola’s men will be desperate to bounce back with a victory against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium next Sunday, and being without the 22-year-old will be a big blow.
Tests will be conducted in the coming days to determine if Saka has sustained an injury, and Arteta will hope that is not the case.
The Gunners will return to action on Tuesday when they face RC Lens in the second group game of their Champions League campaign, and Arteta could be forced to rest Saka against the Ligue 1 side.
