Mikel Arteta provides update on two Arsenal stars ahead of Man City game
|Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on two key players ahead of the Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Gunners suffered their first defeat of the season in midweek. Lens came from behind to beat them 2-1 in the Champions League group stage game.
Arteta will be hoping to return to winning ways against Pep Guardiola’s side and ahead of the meeting, he has provided a fitness update on two players.
The Spanish tactician revealed that Saka is in contention to play on Sunday afternoon and it depends on how he recovers over the next 48 hours or so.
He told football.london: “He is in contention. Let’s see how he progresses from here to Sunday. He had to leave the pitch that’s never good news but let’s see how he recovers.”
Meanwhile, the manager added that Partey is ahead of schedule after recovering from a muscular injury.
He added: “He is ahead of schedule. We wanted to have him in the squad. We couldn’t play him on Tuesday because we had a lot of necessities.“
Arsenal have had a dreadful record against City over the past six years. They have lost an astonishing 12 league games on the trot versus the champions.
They have the opportunity to end the woeful streak soon. City are without Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones due to suspension and injuries.
The Gunners won’t get a better chance to beat the Cityzens and hopefully, Saka will make another quick recovery to make the starting line-up on Sunday.
Saka has started 83 consecutive Premier League matches. With his exceptional fitness and recovery levels, we won’t be surprised if he features at the weekend.
