Mikel Arteta praises four players after Arsenal’s dramatic win vs Man City

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on four players following the club’s dramatic 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Gunners moved to second in the table last night following their first league victory over the Cityzens in 13 attempts. They had a shaky performance in the opening half but managed to control the proceedings with just one shot on target for City.

In the second half, they grew into the game and eventually found the back of the net through Gabriel Martinelli’s deflected effort in the 86th minute. All four of the Gunners’ substitutes were involved in the goal as the Gunners secured a hard-fought victory.

Thomas Partey provided a precise long ball into the path of Takehiro Tomiyasu in the box, who nodded a header towards Kai Havertz. The summer signing managed to hold possession before assisting Martinelli for the dramatic winner.

Speaking after the game, Arteta was delighted by the contribution of the substitutes and said that they were excellent after being involved in the goal, he told Arsenal.com: “To be fair, the subs were excellent again. They were involved in the goal, but they brought so much physicality, energy and quality to the team.”

With the victory, Arsenal remain one of two unbeaten teams in the league including Spurs. The Gunners are currently on the same goal confidence as their north London rivals but Spurs are top of the table due to more goals scored in the opening eight matches.

Following the October international break, the Gunners face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It could be another exciting challenge with the west London outfit recently finding form with three straight victories across all competitions.
