Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya eyeing future La Liga move
|Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has admitted that he would like to move to La Liga in the future having been in England since he was 15.
The Spain international joined the Gunners on a season-long loan from Brentford in the summer and has since established himself as first-choice ahead of Aaron Ramsdale.
Raya has been crucial to Arsenal’s impressive start to the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, with the North Londoners joint leaders in the table after eight games alongside Tottenham Hotspur.
The 28-year-old is keen to hold on to his starting berth at Emirates Stadium for as long as possible, but a return home in the future to continue his career appeals.
“Right now, I don’t have it in mind,” the Arsenal goalie told The Athletic.
“Would I like to play in La Liga? Yes, of course… but at the moment I’m at Arsenal, I’m very happy, and we’ll see what happens in the next few years.”
Given his ball-playing skills, Raya will not be short of suitors in the Spanish top-flight in the coming years, and the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid are likely to be keeping tabs on him.
Arsenal will be keen to get the best out of him in the coming seasons and hope he can help them land the Premier League title.
Doing that will also help him boost his chances of becoming the first-choice in the national team, with Athletic Bilbao goalie Unai Simon currently the starter for La Roja.
Arsenal parted with £3 million to sign Raya on loan and can make the move permanent for £27m, and they will be keen to make enough profit on him should he opt to move on in the future.
