Mikel Arteta confirms Emile Smith Rowe will be out for weeks with knee injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Emile Smith Rowe will be out for weeks after suffering a knee injury in the lead-up to the West Ham United game.

The Gunners bowed out of the Carabao Cup in the fourth round last night following a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Hammers on the road.

Smith Rowe was not in the matchday squad for the derby and speaking after the game, Arteta revealed that he is going to be out for weeks with a knee issue.

He told Arsenal.com: “He’s got an injury in his knee and he’s going to be out for weeks.”

Arsenal have third player sidelined for several weeks

Arsenal have had to deal with untimely injuries since the international break. Thomas Partey suffered a thigh injury in training and the manager has confirmed that he is sidelined for weeks.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus is also in the treatment room after sustaining a hamstring injury against Sevilla in the Champions League. He was brilliant with a goal and an assist before his setback.

The duo are unlikely to return for some time and the injury list has been unfortunately extended with Smith Rowe’s setback. The club graduate will undoubtedly be disappointed by the same.

He got a surprise start over club captain Martin Odegaard over the weekend and registered an assist. Smith Rowe had the chance to replicate his showing last night but he got himself injured.

Arsenal face Newcastle United in Saturday’s late kick-off. Odegaard looks set to start in the number 10 role after his glowing 10-minute cameo against West Ham where he scored a consolation goal.
