Confirmed Arsenal line-up vs Newcastle, 6 changes
|Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made six changes to the starting line-up for today’s late Premier League kick-off against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
The Gunners suffered their second defeat of the campaign in midweek. They bowed out of the Carabao Cup in the fourth round after a 3-1 loss to West Ham United.
Arteta will want the club to return to winning ways this evening. Ahead of the game, the Spanish tactician has made six changes from the derby setback on Wednesday.
David Raya has reclaimed his spot in goal ahead of Aaron Ramsdale, who had a bad outing in east London. The 27-year-old is now the undisputed starter in the league.
In front of him, there are two changes in the backline. William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu have come in for Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the centre-back and left-back positions.
Jorginho reclaims his spot in the number six role with the armband. This means Declan Rice will be operating in a more creative position. He has replaced Fabio Vieira in the starting XI this evening.
In attack, it seems Kai Havertz will operate as the attacking midfielder behind Eddie Nketiah. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have replaced Reiss Nelson and Leandro Trossard out wide.
Club captain Martin Odegaard misses the trip altogether as he is deemed unfit.
Confirmed Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu; Jorginho, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli; Nketiah.
Arsenal have remained unbeaten in the league after 10 games, but they face a difficult challenge this evening against the Magpies. Odegaard’s absence is a huge blow for the club.
Havertz has a big point to prove from the playmaker role. Barring his assist for the winner versus Manchester City, the German has yet to make any other meaningful contribution.
