Premier League: Newcastle United vs Arsenal Betting Preview

Arsenal face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday aiming to keep up the pressure on their rivals at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners are rated as 6/4 favourites to win the game, and you can find out more: get the latest from Ladbrokes on a vast array of other markets ahead of the match.

With Newcastle priced at 7/4 and the draw available at 23/10, online bookmakers clearly believe there will be little to choose between the two sides.

Arsenal head into the weekend second in the standings, two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur and level with reigning champions Manchester City.

With Liverpool and Aston Villa close on their heels, Mikel Arteta’s side desperately need to take something from their trip to the north east.

The London outfit were in fine form in the league last weekend, impressively demolishing Sheffield United 5-0 at the Emirates.

However, they were knocked out of the League Cup by West Ham United in midweek and will need to put that disappointment behind them this weekend.

Newcastle drew 2-2 at Wolverhampton Wanderers in their most recent league outing – a result which left them sixth in the table, six points adrift of the top four.

They can ill-afford to lose any further ground on the leading teams if they are to have any hope of claiming a Champions League qualification spot for the second successive year.

The Magpies will be full of confidence after winning 3-0 at Manchester United in the League Cup on Wednesday, although it would be foolish to get too carried away with that result.

Erik ten Hag’s side were woeful at Old Trafford and produced little resistance against the team they beat to win last season’s final in the same competition.

Despite this, Newcastle deserve plenty of praise for ruthlessly exposing the Red Devils’ weaknesses on their way to booking a place in the quarter-finals.

Goals have not been in short supply in league games involving Arsenal and Newcastle this season, and an entertaining encounter could be on the cards this weekend.

A total of 68 goals scored in the 20 games played by the two clubs – a tally which makes the odds of 21/10 for over 3.5 goals in the match look enticing.

Three of Arsenal’s last four games have exceeded 3.5 goals, while four of Newcastle’s previous six fixtures have generated more than that tally.

It is worth noting that Newcastle drew a blank in their two meetings with Arsenal last season, but they are fancied to rectify matters this weekend.

The anytime goalscorer market also offers a tempting wager, with Bukayo Saka strongly fancied to add to the four league goals he has netted this season.

Saka will fancy his chances of causing problems for Newcastle full-back Dan Burn and looks a good bet to get on the scoresheet at odds of 14/5.

For punters looking for a slightly more ambitious wager, there is a tasty Bet Builder option which could pay dividends on Saturday.

Callum Wilson to score anytime is the first leg of the bet, with the Newcastle striker eager to add to his tally of seven goals in nine league appearances this season.

Arsenal defender Gabriel to be booked and over 2.5 goals in the match completes a tasty 10/1 treble, which should give punters a good run for their money.
