Thomas Partey wants to leave Arsenal in January
|Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has already informed the club that he wants to leave during the January transfer window, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
The Ghanaian star was linked with a move away from the north London giants last summer. He was the subject of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs and Juventus.
The Bianconeri remain keen on signing him ahead of the New Year, but TuttoMercatoWeb claim that he is stalling on their interest and prefers to move elsewhere.
The 30-year-old has already conveyed his desire to leave the Gunners this winter. He is waiting for proposals from other clubs in the Premier League and La Liga.
Arsenal unlikely to offload Partey in January
Partey started the campaign as an inverted right-back. He played the first three games before picking up a groin injury before the Manchester United clash.
The midfielder made his comeback against Manchester City before the international break, but managed just 15 minutes before picking up a fresh muscle injury.
The Ghanaian could be ruled out until the New Year as a result. Regardless of this, we don’t see the Gunners parting ways with his services in the next window.
The €35 million-rated star is no longer an assured starter. Manager Mikel Arteta preferred to play Jorginho over him in two games in early October. Partey started on the bench thrice.
He could face a similar situation on his return with Jorginho and Declan Rice in the squad, but the hierarchy should not consider his sale midway through the season.
Partey remains a key player in the club’s ranks and could find his way back into the starting line-up if Jorginho were to underperform during the back end of the campaign.
The club should deal with his situation similar to Xhaka’s. The former captain was only permitted to leave during the summer and the same stance should be taken on Partey.
Arsenal could sign a new defensive midfielder by selling Partey in January, but that would be a risky prospect. An overseas-based player may struggle to adapt to the Premier League’s intensity from the off.
