Leandro Trossard proves why he should be Arsenal’s main man up front

Belgian star Leandro Trossard has proved that he should be Arsenal’s main man up front following his impressive performances before the November international break.

The 28-year-old has been a revelation for the Gunners since his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion in January and he has already made 19 goal contributions in 36 games.

Three of those have come in the last two outings. Trossard scored the opening goal in the victory over Sevilla before replicating the feat against Burnley at the weekend.

The forward showed immense bravery to get his head onto the ball at the far post, considering there was an onrushing goalkeeper and he was just yards away from the woodwork.

Trossard was visibly in pain after his elbow made contact with the post, but fortunately he was up and running and delivered a quality cross for William Saliba’s goal after the break.

In our view, the €35 million-rated star has proved that he should be Arsenal’s number nine going forward.

Looking at this season’s Premier League statistics, Trossard has an exceptional goal conversion rate of 43 per cent. He has scored three goals from just seven shots on target.

In comparison, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have a goal conversion rate of 20 and 10 per cent respectively. The latter has netted just once in the top-flight this term.

Trossard has also won a higher percentage of duels (50) compared to Nketiah and Jesus (47 & 45). He may not possess the same work rate but makes up for it with better success in challenges.

Meanwhile, he has lost possession on just 6.3 occasions per game which is quite similar to Nketiah (5.9). Jesus has been prone to being dispossessed more often with 11 times per outing.

Taking the above statistics into mind, Trossard deserves to get a long run up front. We have seen him dropped after one off-performance. Hopefully, the manager will persist with him this time.

His co-ordination with Bukayo Saka has been quite fascinating to see for the fans. Trossard has scored all six of his goals this season directly from assists from the England international.
