Arsenal muscle ahead of Chelsea & Real Madrid in Osimhen pursuit

Arsenal have muscled ahead of Chelsea & Real Madrid in the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen at the end of the campaign.

The Gunners have had a fine Premier League season and they are currently top of the standings with a two-point lead over second-placed Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the north London giants have progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League with the top spot in their group and a game to spare.

Despite the positives, the club are still lagging behind in the striking department and need a marquee signing who can find the net with regularity.

Osimhen would be a perfect solution for the Gunners and RAI Sport (via CalcioNapoli24) claim that the club have pulled ahead of Chelsea and Madrid in the race.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis recently talked up a new deal for the striker, but his agent is reluctant to talk after a meeting regarding the renewal.

The Nigerian star is expected to cost in upwards of €100 million.

Osimhen would be an ideal addition to the strikeforce

The Gunners are in a brilliant position in the Premier League and Champions League, but none of their strikers in the squad have hit double figures in terms of goals.

Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have netted five goals apiece. Leandro Trossard, who has occasionally played up front, has registered six goals across all competitions.

On Saturday, we saw all three of them miss clear-cut scoring chances created by Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal could have cruised to a convincing victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but they were made to dig deep for a 2-1 win following Matheus Cunha’s late strike.

The lack of cutting edge up front did not cost them against Wolves, but things could have been different. Hence, it is quite clear that the club need a genuine scoring striker.

Osimhen netted 31 goals from 36 games for Napoli last term. This season, he has only managed six goals from 13 games, but that has been primarily due to a hamstring injury.

The former Lille man recently completed 90 minutes and we should see him back to his best heading into the New Year.

Osimhen will only turn 25 in late December and in our opinion, he would be an ideal acquisition to help the Gunners compete for regular silverware in the coming seasons.

The striker is not necessarily known for his ball control and distribution, but he makes up for it with his aerial presence and strong finishing in the box which Arsenal need.
