Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka miss Arsenal training ahead of PSV Eindhoven trip
|Arsenal attacking duo Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka missed the training session today ahead of the trip to the Netherlands to face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League tomorrow, according to the Evening Standard journalist Simon Collings.
The Brazilian was unavailable due to illness, while the England international has a knock on his foot.
Arsenal have been handed an injury boost as Emile Smith Rowe has resumed training with the group, but it remains to be seen if he will be joining the matchday squad for the Tuesday game.
Saka could be risked for the game as the knock may not be serious, but Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is expected to ring the changes for the dead-rubber match, and a couple of the youth players could be getting the chance to impress.
The 22-year-old played all 90 minutes against Aston Villa on Saturday and has had several injury scares this term, so it would not be surprising if he is involved against the Eredivisie club tomorrow.
However, it makes no sense to play him as Arsenal have nothing to play for having booked a spot in the round of 16 as Group B leaders.
The defeat at Villa Park saw the North Londoners drop to second in the Premier League table, and they cannot afford to lose Saka to an injury right now, so handing him a deserved rest tomorrow would do his fitness the world of good.
They return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host Brighton & Hove Albion before travelling to Anfield to take on Liverpool afterwards, and having the forward available for those two games is crucial to their chances of winning.
Martinelli is also expected to return to action ahead of the weekend once he is well, and Arsenal need all their key players available as we head into the second half of the campaign.
