Arsenal handed potential injury scare as Aaron Ramsdale sustains blow to his foot vs PSV Eindhoven

Arsenal appear to have been handed a potential injury scare in their Champions League group game against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night after Aaron Ramsdale picked up an injury in the opening minutes of the match.

The England international goalkeeper was at the receiving end of a tackle from William Saliba, and he started struggling with his foot afterwards, with David Raya sent out to warm up.

Ramsdale appeared to be in pain each time he dived to make a save, and it remains to be seen whether he would be able to finish the match.

The 25-year-old was making his Champions League debut against the Eredivisie club having been on the bench for the earlier five games of the competition.

Ramsdale has found himself behind Raya in the pecking order since the Spain international arrived from Brentford on a season-long loan in the summer, and an injury is the last thing he needs right now.

He could end up finishing the game tonight, but scans and tests will be carried out on the foot on Wednesday to determine the severity of the knock.

The Englishman will hope to shake up the knock and immediately return to training as the battle between him and the Spaniard continues.

Raya has established himself as the undisputed number 1 for Arsenal, but his recent gaffes could give Ramsdale a chance to reclaim his starting berth, and the former Sheffield United star knows he cannot afford to be unavailable for selection right now.

The Gunners have struggled with injuries at the back so far this term, and manager Mikel Arteta will be praying Ramsdale does not join the growing list of players on the treatment table.
