Manchester City left-back Sergio Gomez reveals Pep Guardiola has been making him watch video clips of Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko

Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko joined the Gunners from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 and has established himself as a key player under manager Mikel Arteta.

The Ukraine international was struggling to play regularly under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium club, and he did not hesitate to join Arsenal when the chance came calling.

Man City signed Sergio Gomez as a replacement for Zinchenko, and the Spaniard has revealed that Guardiola has been making him watch video clips of the Gunners star.

“I watched a lot of Zinchenko’s games,” the 23-year-old revealed.

“I came to City because he left, it was what the coach wanted. I was getting his Arsenal clips because he was trying to get me to notice what he did.

“He was a similar case to mine: with the national team he played higher up, with the club he was a full-back.”

Guardiola is clearly a fan of the qualities of the Ukrainian, and he would have wished he retained his services.

Zinchenko has been playing more games since he moved to Arsenal and has even bagged two Premier League goals in 42 games having failed to find the back of the net in 76 league games at Man City.

The 26-year-old has also been playing differently at the North London club, often cutting inside from his position and playing as an inverted left-back.

Guardiola clearly still rates him high and is impressed with how he has been playing at Arsenal.

The Man City boss wants Gomez to learn from his predecessor and will hope the youngster can improve his game in the process.

Zinchenko won four Premier League titles with the Sky Blues and would have been utterly gutted to have missed out on the title last term.

Arsenal are looking to go one better this term, and they can count on the experience and quality of the former Man City star heading into the second half of the 2023-24 campaign.
