Chris Willock urges Mikel Arteta to hand Reiss Nelson regular playing chances after his performance against PSV Eindhoven

Arsenal ended their Champions League group campaign with a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night, finishing top of the pile to book a place in the round of 16.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta handed plenty of the fringe players a chance to impress in the dead-rubber game, and Reiss Nelson combined with Eddie Nketiah to open the scoring for the visitors.

The attacking midfielder was making his first start in the Champions League this term having come off the bench four times, and he impressed by providing an assist.

Nelson spent 89 minutes on the pitch and was in impressive form against PSV, taking to Instagram to react after the game.

Some of his teammates reacted with emojis to the post, while former Arsenal forward Chris Willock sent a message to Arteta in the comments section.

The Queens Park Rangers star said:

Nelson has featured in 13 games across all competitions this term, but only three have been starts.

The 24-year-old has weighed in with a goal and two assists so far and will be hoping to start seeing action regularly heading into the second half of the campaign.

The Arsenal academy graduate did well on Tuesday, but whether it would be enough to earn him his seventh Premier League appearance of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday remains to be seen.

Nelson is behind Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz in the pecking order as Arteta is not short of quality options on the wings.

The North Londoners play four more league games before the end of 2023, and the manager could be forced to ring the changes in some of them.

Nelson took his chance against PSV and will be hungry for more chances going forward.

He remains a squad player for now and will need to step up significantly to have any chance of breaking into the Arsenal starting XI.
