Mikel Arteta provides injury update on three midfielders ahead of Liverpool clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on three midfielders ahead of the Premier League clash at Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Gunners are currently top of the league standings, one point ahead of Liverpool and Aston Villa. Villa have the opportunity to go to the summit by beating Sheffield United tonight.

Hence, Arsenal may have to defeat Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield to reclaim top spot. Ahead of the game, Arteta has provided an injury update on Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Jorginho.

Partey has been nursing a thigh injury for a number of weeks and the manager has revealed that he is still finalising his rehabilitation and has not returned to training with the first team yet.

The Spaniard added that Mohamed Elneny will report for training after a hamstring issue today, but Jorginho is still a doubt, having been sidelined for the past few games with a foot concern.

He told Arsenal.com: “Thomas Partey is still finalising his rehab. He still hasn’t trained with the team yet. Mo Elneny will hopefully join us this afternoon to see how he feels about it. For the rest, no news. Jorginho is still a doubt.”

The Gunners have had another impressive Premier League campaign. They face a stern test of their title credentials tomorrow when they face the Reds away from home.

The club have not won a league game at Anfield since 2012. They came on the cusp of doing so last season, but squandered a 2-0 advantage and were lucky to pick up a point.

There was a sense of complacency after securing an early two-goal lead. Arteta will be hoping his players can replicate a similar attacking display with a better defensive resolve.
